Number 12!

It's hard to believe we're already completing the 12th of 20 Things! Del.icio.us is something, much like many of the others, that I have been using for a while. I enjoy the social aspect of it somewhat, but what I really like is being able to tag my bookmarks and find them when I'm on another computer. With del.icio.us being online, rather than resident on my computer, I can always find the bookmarks I've put there.

Week 11

Rollyo is really easy to use and interesting. As a Reference Librarian this is something in which I really see potential. I use delicious, too, but that is a bit different.

For my knitting hobby, I've created a Rollyo search roll called Knitting How-to's. I've even logged in to Rollyo as Susieshelf to make it all make some sort of sense.

Generators!

Well...............Week 10 is a blast!! Wouldn't you agree???!!! This title is from Cooltext.com and was so very simple to make. I think I may just do more Generating!!

There are so many generators out there on the internet that it's hard to decide which one to use. I think this is wonderful for all of us who aren't original designers, too.

Have fun with it!

Well............I'm late and ontime

Somehow I didn't post about Library Thing at all. I've had an account with them for over a year, maybe longer. It's fun, but I just haven't had the time to really do it justice, so I'm not adding to it for the moment. When I have the time this winter, I plan to add to it, too. I belong to another aggregate site called Ravelry, too, and it is all about knitting. They both allow for entering all of your own information, which is soooooo time consuming, and then comparing with others and sorting accordingly. I love these sites, but they take up way too much time to get started properly.

As for RSS feed tools, I prefer to use my blogger account to search for new feeds. It is very easy to search by topic. Technorati would be a close second, but I seldom use it. I'm very much a creature of habit, so I use what I'm familiar with and don't search beyond it as long as it satisfies me.

19 November

Locate a few library related blogs.

Well.............I know several.

One of my favorites is http://lii.org. Librarians' Internet Index. They claim to have websites you can trust, and I do trust them. They are organized, much like libraries, by subjects, and there is a wealth of information.

http://www.tk421.net/librarylink/ This is Library Link of the Day and there is a new link each day. If you subscribe in your RSS feeder you will get the link daily without having to look for it.

There are many more, but these are two of my favorites that are library related.

RSS Feeds

This is one of those things that I've been doing for what seems like forever. I've had a Bloglines account for a really long time and keep adding to it. I've also started an account in Googlereader which does the same thing as Bloglines, but because I've been using Bloglines longer, I'm more comfortable with it and use it more.

I've added so many blogs and news feeds that it takes me a while to read the list of new entries occasionally. It's so nice to see the new entries in bold, though. The Beta version of Bloglines upgrade is a bit different, too, and I guess because of familiarity once again, I prefer the original version. Oh, well, I'll change when they make me change and be happy about it, too!

I use bloglines for news, Pamunkey blogs, family blogs, and particularly knitting blogs. I subscribe to several really popular knitting blogs and also found a new one about sewing that has hit the top 100 blogs just recently. It is Sew Mama Sew! Blog. Take a look.

If you'd like to see my Bloglines go to www.bloglines.com/public/spiral2222 Enjoy, especially if you're a knitter!

Myspace.com is really innovative, to say the least! I don't use it, personally, but my daughter does and she found out about a high school class reunion on Myspace way before it was announced in the local paper. I saw Jaime's posting about Myspace and was about to show you the same page she did. So.............instead of me posting the band site, I'll give you the link to Jaime's site. She is innovative, too!!!

Flickr is the greatest!

My first experience with Flickr was almost 2 years ago when my son flew to Cannes, France to work at an international travel show. He borrowed my digital camera that I knew how to use and off he flew. While he was in Cannes he uploaded most of his pictures to Flickr and then shared them with me through the internet. I was amazed to be seeing what he was seeing almost at the same time.

Here is the hotel where he stayed!! Isn't this cool???

Here is a picture out of the window of his flight, when they were 30 minutes from landing in Iceland. Isn't this beautiful???????
These are on my Flickr account, and are public, too, so enjoy and see what more you can find of such beauty on Flickr.

Ramblings on two weeks of 20 Things @ PRL

October 15 -- View the vodcast on the 7.5 habits of successful lifelong learners.

Well.................I love all the habits. As evidenced by my returning to get my MSIS in 2000 and successfully completing my degree in 2003, all in my 50's, I think I am really a lifelong learner. I continually feel like I learn at least one new thing every day of my life and often many, many more.

October 22 -- Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.

YouTube is one of my favorite websites. I've never made anything for it, but with my love of knitting I've used it heavily. Many people who knit have created visual how-t0's for knitting projects, stitches, etc. Whenever I have a question about how to do something I look in my various knitting books and then search YouTube to see if there's a video already done of it. More often than not, there is and I'm set to go with my new knitting project.

There's a funny YouTube video about The Last Knit. I'll include it here for everyone to enjoy!

Second Week Fun

Well.....................I already have this blog and another, knittingshelf.blogspot.com. I've been blogging for a while and really enjoy it. It is one way to find people with similar interests to your own.

I'm about to go on vacation for the next two Monday's, so I'll tell you here, that I have already done the 3rd and 4th items on our list of 20 things @ Pamunkey. The 7.5 habits is a great vodcast. I know it took some effort, but it really did turn out well!

Youtube is fun to just explore. I often see other bloggers upload Youtube vodcasts to their blogs and find some of them interesting, but I'm not usually inclined to take other people's materials for my own use. I haven't had the time to create my own vodcast, so maybe over the Christmas holidays (yeah, sure, when will I ever have the time???!!).

I probably won't post for a few weeks, so enjoy the 20 things while I'm gone!

1 October 2007

Today is the day! The 1st of October and we launch our blog http://pamunkey20things.blogspot.com/.

I've previously done most of the 20 things and enjoyed most of them, too, but I'm planning to follow the list, week by week, as best I can.

Obviously I've done the 1st thing and the 2nd, so I'm a bit ahead, but I'm hoping to help many of you who might be reading my blog with the various stages of this fun.

The internet and all of it's wonderful technology have become a big part of my life. I'm about to purchase two computer cam's (camera's), one for my computer and one for my daughter's computer, so we can talk in person on Instant Message. My new grandbaby often is sitting in my daughter's lap when she is on her computer and we do IM each other frequently, so maybe I can see the baby and she see and hear me more, so she will get to know me better and better.

First Post!

I've posted a comment on Indi Anna's blog. We are both new grandmother's and obviously very proud of it. If you're interested, check out my other blog http://www.knittingshelf.blogspot.com/ I have knitting, family, baby and all sorts of other posts there.

Anyone in Pamunkey is welcome to ask me for help about blogging. It's lots of fun and not difficult! Call me, email me or comment on my blog with questions!
